Public Transit

The division has planning, project development and implementation responsibilities. Major responsibilities include developing statewide coordinated transportation plans, allocating and providing oversight of federal transit funds to public and private non-profit organizations along with local, state and tribal governments to provide mass transit services.


The Public Transit Division is responsible for the development and administration of general public and specialized transportation program grants and contracts. These programs include service delivery, technical assistance, and training components.

In accordance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Mississippi Department of Transportation assures that no persons on the basis of race, color, and national origin, including the denial of meaningful access for limited English proficient (LEP) persons shall be discriminated against under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.
